Papers of the Armbrister and Nye families of Wythe and Bland counties, Virginia, 1809-1889.

The collection contains miscellaneous financial papers of the Armbristers, chiefly store receipts, Wythe County taxes and promissory notes. Among them are several C.S.A. tax-in-kind forms and a list of purchases for the Giles County [soldiers?] hospital, 1862. Nye family correspondence chiefly concerns family health and troubles and includes a request for money for a child's schooling, a description of a deathbed scene, a request for aid in clearing a soldier of a desertion charge, and a letter from an Iowa Quaker filled with religious sentiment.
